Main purpose of job:
The role of the Science, Technology and Health Team at the British Embassy Seoul, part of the UK Science and Technology Network (STN), is to facilitate the development and strengthening of science and technology collaboration between the UK and Republic of Korea across governmental, academic and industry levels. The work of the team typically falls across three core themes: critical & emerging technologies, clean energy and health.
The primary role of this position is the working level delivery of existing, and development of new, bilateral strategic science and innovation relationships between the UK and the Republic of Korea, leading on higher education partnerships and science policy while also supporting cooperation in critical emerging technologies. The role also leads on reporting and comms, providing internal updates on policy developments and supporting internal and external communications. The role provides admin and finance support to the wider team as required.
Thematic engagement around higher education; science policy; and diversity in science (35%):
You will be supporting the Head of the Science & Technology Network to explore British higher education sector interests in Korean science & technology, including scoping missions, student recruitment and skills and PhD exchange programmes. You will also support relationship building with government and NGOs on the formulation of approaches to science & tech policy, multilateral engagement and diversity and inclusion in science.
Policy support for critical and emerging technology collaboration (25%):
You will work with the relevant senior science and technology advisor to push forward the scoping of opportunities in critical and emerging technologies, including supporting visiting delegations, doing ad-hoc reporting and building relationships with stakeholders.
Reporting and communications (20%):
You will track developments in Korean science and technology policy & R&D budgets, writing reports where appropriate for internal use. You will support internal communication of STN activity and outcomes, working with the media team on external communications where appropriate.
Admin & Finance Support (15%):
You’ll play a role in supporting all delivery moments, including visitors and events, by providing essential admin support and assisting with internal financial processes.
Corporate Support (5%):
You will support the wider Embassy community through taking an active role in internal support activities.
